Barcelona

Everything you’ve heard about Barcelona is true – what a fabulous city! We spent a week there and loved every minute. The food, the wine, the scenery and the people were all wonderful.

Of course, Sagrada Familia is a must see. More than a hundred years in the making and still another 20 or so before it’s finished. The striking cathedral was the inspiration of architectural icon Antoni Gaudi. He died before he could see it complete, and now, a collaboration of designers are working to carry out his dream. I’d love to hear what Gaudi thinks of their efforts.

We also enjoyed touring one of the homes Gaudi designed.

Of course, La Rambla is full of energy and a touch of the bizarre. A naked guy on a bike flew by us one day, but I wasn’t fast enough with my camera. There wasn’t a tan line to be found on his lean body.

The giant farmers’ market on La Rambla is a must-see. It’s an incredible collection of produce, exotic spices, nuts and seafood. It’s said to be one of the best markets in the world – I believe it.

Shopping in Barcelona is wonderful and so are the wine bars. Here’s some of our favorite finds…

The big adjustment here is WHEN you eat it. Lunch usually is about 2p and dinner 10p. Most of the restaurants don’t even open until 9 in the evening, so plan on some late nights.
